Is the chair you specify killing people? The effects of poor seated posture on the human body.
This seminar is delivered by Commercial Interiors UK member Kirwin & Simpson
Type:
Powerpoint Presentation

This CPD discusses factors that designers and consultants need to consider when specifying seating for projects – and, no, these are not centred around aesthetics, but the affect poor seating can have on the body. On average, present-day customers are physically bigger than 100 years ago and to simply widen the design of seats is not enough. Seat comfort may be a subjective assessment, but one precursor to seat discomfort is widely agreed: slumped posture. Slumped seated posture has also now been proven to affect anatomical, physiological, and psychological functions.

This interactive presentation covers:

  • physical and ergonomic factors causing people to sit badly
  • poor posture’s negative influence on physiological well-being and emotions
  • clinical findings
  • history of improving seated posture
  • ideas to improve seat comfort and customer satisfaction

Learning outcomes:

  • Effects of poor posture on the human body
  • How to assess seat comfort
  • New ways to address poor seated posture
  • What to look for when specifying a seat
