Strong governance for a member-owned association
Commercial Interiors UK (CIUK) is owned by its members and, as 'Your Trade Association', it is important that the decisions made on their behalf reflect the range of businesses and perspectives across the membership.
Strong, representative governance gives members confidence that CIUK’s strategic, financial and commercial decisions are informed by relevant industry experience. It also supports the organisation as it works towards the ambitions set out in its 2026–2029 Strategy and responds to the feedback received through its 2026 Member Survey.
With this in mind, CIUK has appointed five new Directors to its Board.
A contemporary, inclusive and transparent recruitment model
The appointments follow a recruitment model introduced by CIUK earlier in 2026 during the process to strengthen its Council. That process resulted in seven new representatives joining the Council, creating a twelve-strong body drawn from across the CIUK membership.
The same inclusive and transparent principles were then applied to Board recruitment.
The opportunity to register an interest was opened to representatives from every CIUK member company at Director level and above. Selected applicants met with CIUK Chairman Stuart Taylor and Managing Director Sean Holt before being considered by the existing Board, which made the final appointments.
The process focused on identifying applicants who could bring complementary experience and expertise to the Board.
Consideration was given to each applicant’s commercial experience, their role and responsibilities within their own business, and the expertise they could contribute to the Board’s strategic and financial responsibilities, including setting and approving the association’s annual budget.
CIUK also considered the product categories and sectors represented by applicants. Members operate across workplace, hospitality, care, cruise, education and other commercial markets, making broad sector knowledge important to the Board’s work.
Target markets and company backgrounds were also considered, including UK-focused and internationally active businesses, and both UK-founded and internationally founded organisations. This helps ensure that CIUK’s services and priorities remain relevant to a wide range of member businesses.
The recruitment process also sought to introduce a wider range of ages and career experience to the Board.
CIUK remains committed to improving gender representation within its governance. Gender balance has now been achieved across the CIUK Council, while greater gender balance on the Board remains an objective for future recruitment.
Stuart Taylor, Chair of CIUK said “I am delighted to welcome our new members to the Board. Their appointments followed a rigorous and open process, conducted in the spirit of transparency and designed to bring the right blend of skills, experience and perspectives to our organisation. I look forward to working with them as we build on our progress and strengthen our service to all stakeholders.”

Continuing to strengthen CIUK governance
The appointments also mark a new chapter for Warren Stimson, who joins the Board following many years of dedicated service as a member of the Commercial Interiors UK Council.
CIUK is extremely grateful for the time, knowledge and commitment Warren has contributed to the Council and is delighted that his involvement with the association will now continue at Board level.
Warren’s move also creates a vacancy on the Council. That position will be filled from among the members who registered their interest through CIUK’s earlier Council recruitment process.
Commercial Interiors UK is Your Trade Association and ensuring member voices are represented in the decisions that shape its future remains central to that commitment.
